The Blue ram is indeed one of the most peaceful and beautiful cichlids of all. They are dwarf cichlids as they grow to 5cm.

They are comprised of many enchanting colours but since most are tank bred, lack these amazing colours. Even a gold and blue strain of the ram has been developed.

The most striking feature of the blue ram are its blue iridescent flecks and the black spot and vertical band it has.

The males are more colourful than the females. Females are rounder with a pinkish abdominal area.

As far as water is concerned - it has to be perfect or close to it. These fish have a bad reputation to die, they only live for 2 years or if you're lucky, maybe 3 years.

They must have clean and crystal clear water .

Rams are very delicate so only the advanced aquarists are experienced enough to look after them well. Note that rams don't take to medications well and prefer to be in a species tank with driftwood and Amazon sword plants.

The Ram is prized for its winning personality despite its fierce appearance. With its spiked dorsal fin, low-slung pectoral fins, Mikrogeophagus ramirezi appears to be an aquarium bulldog. However, this member of the cichlid family is actually one of the more social and peaceful freshwater fish. In fact, most Rams will actively swim with equally non-aggressive members of your community aquarium and are known to faithfully pair with just one other mate.

The German Blue Ram is known for its mottled deep blue splotches of color. The German Gold Rams have a gold body with hints of pink, orange, and red. The Electric Blue Rams are just that bright and bold electric blue in coloration. These are not dyed, painted, or anything of the sort as these have been selectively bred for color.

These Balloon Rams are a genetic mutation of the original German Blue Ram.

They are bred in the Orient and shipped to the US.

Care and feeding is the same as the original German Blue, and all water requirements are the same.

The Gold Ram is yet another mutation of the original German Blue Ram .

It's water and food requirements are the same as the Blue verity.

It must be noted that the Gold Ram is a more sensitive verity and thus should only be kept by experienced fish keepers . Poor water conditions and stress are the number one cause of death .

Gold's have been know to live weeks just fine then for no operant reason be found dead . A careful check of water conditions almost always show a swing in Nitrates Amonia or other water premières.

So to keep your Gold's healthy you MUST monitor your water quality !

Long fin Ram is yet another in a long series of mutations develpoted from the original German Blue Ram.

This mutation is recognised by the long flowing fins. This pair are both long fin and thus breed true long fin fry.

All requirements are the same as for the German Blue as far as water and feeding.

Only other condition of note is , you need take care with tank mates as the Blue Ram is very dosial and with the new long fins , fin nipping tank mates should be avoided .
